Advertisers try to cash in on Delhi polls

The Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled to be held on Saturday, has created a lot of hype in the market, with brands booking advertising slots on news channels. However, it is not as big as the Lok Sabha elections held last year. The Lok Sabha elections, which saw the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coming to power, provided a big opportunity to brands to advertise their products and services on news channels.

News channels are all set to highlight the different aspects of the Delhi elections on February 10, the result day. Both English and Hindi news channels are in the race to win the maximum viewership. With programming on the basis of latest technology, illustrative graphics, prominent anchors and a number of on-ground reporters, news channels are doing their best to lure viewers.

Several brands across sectors such as e-commerce, FMCG, automobiles, education and insurance have also joined the race to advertise their products and services on news channels, while the latter go live with special programmes on the counting day.

News Nation has got MMR as its ‘presenting sponsor’, while Aquaguard has been roped in as ‘powered by sponsor’ and Ghadi Detergent as ‘co-powered by sponsor’. The channel is covering all 70 constituencies with 70 reporters stationed in each constituency. 

On the counting day, Dr Prannoy Roy, Dorab Sopariwala and Shekhar Gupta will go live from 7:30am with the programme ‘And the winner is’ on NDTV 24x7. Amity University is the presenting sponsor, co-powered by Llyod and sponsored by Finolex.

Amity is also sponsoring the Hindi channel of NDTV Group, NDTV India, which will broadcast ‘Dilli Ka Dangal’ on the counting day. The programme will be co-powered by Ajnara and Jewell Paints.

Zee News has also roped in Amity as its ‘presenting sponsor’ for its special programme – ‘Muffler Wala vs Naseeb Wala’ on the election result day. Aquaguard is the ‘powered by’ sponsor for Zee.

CNN-IBN is coming up with ‘Mission Delhi’ with the counting day coverage. Bhupendra Chaubey, Zakka Jacob, Palki Sharma and Shreya Dhoundial will anchor the programme. The channel has got OLX, Edelweiss, Essilor and Centuryply as sponsors on board.

IBN7 will be telecasting ‘Dilli mein iss baar Bedi sarkar?’ Sumit Awasthi and Akash Soni will host the show. Ajnara Group is the ‘presenting sponsor’.
