Actor-turned-politician Vijaykanth all set to launch TV channel on April 14

Actor-turned-politician Vijaykanth is all set to launch his 24-hour news and entertainment channel, Captain TV, on April 14, 2010. As a prelude, the star has already launched the dry run of his channel from March 15. According to a veteran journalist, the new channel was expected to serve as a propaganda tool for the actor-turned-politician to further his political ambitions.

The DMDK leader, according to sources, had been working overtime to ensure that the channel provided quality content for Tamil audiences. Apart from other programmes, the channel will also show movies on a daily basis with new films every Sunday.

Captain TV will be a complete entertainment channel with an array of serials from Monday to Friday, feature films at noon from Monday to Friday, English movies dubbed in Tamil at noon on Saturdays and Sundays, and the latest Tamil movies on weekends and more. Programmes for women, children, students and the youth are expected to get prime importance. The channel will also have regular news bulletins. The channel will also identify and encourage young talents through various programmes.

The DMDK leader had unveiled the channel’s logo on Tamil New Year’s day, January 14, 2010.

According to sources, Vijaykanth was planning a big-ticket launch with a lot of fanfare. Prominent celebrities and politicians are expected to be present at the launch. Vijaykanth is the former President of South Indian Film Artists Association.

The actor, with his Captain TV, will take on what he dubs ‘the Goebblesian propaganda’ of the DMK through Sun TV Network and Kalaignar TV, which Karunanidhi’s immediate family owns.
