Aaj Tak completes a decade of successful 24-hour news broadcast

As 2010 drew to a close, Aaj Tak completed 10 years as a 24-hour news channel. Aaj Tak was launched on December 31, 2000 by the TV Today Network, in line with the India Today Group’s mission of exploring the television medium.

Speaking on the occasion, Aroon Purie, Chairman and Managing Director, TV Today Network, commented, “It is indeed a proud moment for Aaj Tak and the entire TV Today team. This has been a decade of exponential growth for India and Aaj Tak has done extremely well to showcase the same and be part of the India growth story. Aaj Tak is one of the biggest media success stories of the decade, and I am sure it will continue to set new benchmarks through innovation in news gathering and cutting edge reporting.”

G Krishnan, CEO and Executive Director, TV Today, remarked, “Aaj Tak continues to dominate the news space despite increased competition. The channel, in addition to being a disseminator of news and information, continues to impact and empower the consumers as the most trusted and credible news brand in the country. Going forward, Aaj Tak will continue to remain relevant for the consumer and available across markets, platforms and touch-points.”

The channel, which was started as a 20-minute daily news capsule on the terrestrial network, is also making strides as a leader in the television news space in India and in several international markets like the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, and so on. Aaj Tak has won several accolades, including the Indian Television Academy Award for Best News Channel for a record 10 years in a row.
