Aaj Tak bags HHITA Best News Channel Award for fifth straight year

The Hero Honda Indian Television Academy Awards (HHITA) 2005, held in Mumbai on October 7, brought good news for Aaj Tak, which bagged the Best News Channel Award – the fifth consecutive year the channel has bagged the award. Prabhu Chawla was also awarded the Best Anchor – Talk/Chat Show for his show Seedhi Baat on Aaj Tak.

HHITA is one of the biggest awards ceremonies by the television industry that recognises the talent and achievements of the entire fraternity, and was attended by the who’s who of the television industry.

Speaking on the occasion G Krishnan, CEO, TV Today, said, “This is a proud moment as we are winning the Best News Channel award for the 5th consecutive year. Winning it each successive year is a greater challenge as the news industry is constantly growing and I am glad we have emerged stronger despite competition. This has been made possible by the effort of the entire TV Today team and the overwhelming support from advertisers, the cable fraternity and above all the viewers.”

Aroon Purie, Chairman and Managing Director, TV Today, said, “This is a very momentous year for us – Aaj Tak completed 10 successful years, we launched our third 24 hour news channel, Tez, and Aaj Tak and Headlines Today made its international foray in the US. This award makes it even more special and bears testimony to the fact that we are on the right track.”

Indian Television Academy, promoted by Anu and Shashi Ranjan, was set up to nurture and promote all activities pertaining to the world of television. The Hero Honda Indian Television Academy Awards has entered its fifth year in 2005 and is becoming synonymous with highest achievement for excellence in television.
