Two top appointments to boost Discovery Communications' global sports strategy

 Two top appointments to boost Discovery Communications' global sports strategy

Discovery Communications today announced two new executive appointments, which will strengthen the company’s global sports expertise and strategy.

Jean-Thierry Augustin has been appointed the President-Sports Strategy and Development at Discovery Networks International, while Peter Hutton has been named the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Eurosport.

Augustin, who earlier worked as the CEO of Eurosport, will report to JB Perrette, President of Discovery Networks International. He will be based in Paris and work closely with Discovery’s international leadership team and Hutton to create a compelling sports business development strategy.

“It has been a privilege to lead Eurosport over the past several years. I look forward to applying my experience and help utilise sports content to drive growth and create long-term relationships with key partners throughout Discovery’s global business,” said Augustin.

Augustin had joined Eurosport in 2001 as Regional Distribution Director. Following several promotions, he was named the CEO of Eurosport in June 2013.
Hutton joins Eurosport from MP & Silva Group, where he held the post of Co-CEO. He will oversee the negotiation of sports rights and lead Eurosport’s content strategy to bring renewed focus to programming, production, promotion and platforms. He will take advantage of Discovery’s local infrastructure and global platforms to maximise Eurosport’s value in over 70 countries and in 20 languages. Hutton, who will join office from March 1, will also report to Perrette. He, too, will be based out of Paris.

Hutton has also worked as the Managing Director at ESPN Star Sports, Senior Vice President at Fox International Channels Sport and COO of Ten Sports.

“As we approach closer to one-year anniversary of Discovery’s acquisition of Eurosport in May, our focus is on unlocking the full value of ourmust-have sports content for the entire Discovery Communications portfolio to benefit our advertisers, affiliates, audiences and shareholders around the world,” said Perrette.

He added, “Jean-Thierry has been at the helm of Eurosport for several years during which he proved to be a tremendous commercial leader. This new role will harness his expertise to build Discovery’s global sports strategy. Peter has an extensive experience in Europe, Asia and the Middle East and strong relationships with broadcasters and rights holders. He is the perfect executive to strengthen Eurosport’s position as a global leader in sports. I am excited to work with both as we take our business to an exciting new level.”
