SC allows DD to show live feed of World Cup matches

The Supreme Court has stayed an order that restrains public broadcaster Doordarshan from telecasting World Cup feed for free. Reports quote that “This arrangement that DD showing free feed had been there for the last seven years. Let it continue," said Supreme Court bench in an interim order. DD will now be allowed to broadcast World Cup along with cable operators.

In a previous order, Delhi High Court had banned DD from showing World Cup live feed.

Star Sports which has exclusive World Cup telecast rights had contested that if DD shows it free of cost, there will be a loss of revenues for them.

Star Sports’ and ESPN suggestions on the matter will be heard by the Supreme Court and they will be addressed on February 17.
