‘Satyamev Jayate’ is a soul stirring experience: Avinash Pandey

‘Satyamev Jayate’ should be a super hit show. It would not be a hit because it raises issues but because of what it does to those issues. You don’t get to see such a good show that is not only high on appeal but also thoroughly engaging.

I had tears in my eyes when I saw the show; it can move anyone with the slightest of sensibility. It gives you a soul stirring experience.

Aamir Khan has become synonymous with truthfulness and revolution. His appearance is rare even in movies but now his being on TV and telling you every Sunday morning that something is wrong in your neighbourhood will have huge mass appeal.

‘Satyamev Jayate’ talks to you about a menace or a crime in an involving story format. It tells you that while you are not involved in a crime, it affects you too and you must act on it now – something a GEC is not expected to do.

The show’s design is minimalistic. However, its excellent production quality, carefully worded script, selection of cases and guests, perfect editing coupled with the right kind of song and music makes this unparalleled in Indian television.

One thing that struck me was the presence of a song towards the end and selection of the song. I am told there is one at the end of every show. ‘O Ri Chiraiya, Nanhi Si Chidiya’ completes the emotional journey with its melancholic tune, involved studio audience and tears in eyes of the host.

‘Satyamev Jayate’ has got the finest of Indian advertising. This is praiseworthy as most media planners and buyers only play safe and stay away from such hard-hitting shows. I understand the amount of conviction and gut one requires to go ahead with such a show. It’s a victory for all involved.

One last thing that is a take-away from this show is that to communicate an important and serious message, you don’t need to scream or be boring. You can entertain the audience while telling a true story.
