Dubbed as ‘the greatest One Day match in history’ by a leading national daily, the South Africa-Australia ODI played in Johannesburg on March 12 saw several records being smashed and new ones created. Now, bowing to tremendous demand from viewers, ESPN-STAR sports will be airing repeat telecast of this ODI not once, but thrice.
The first repeat will be shown on March 14 beginning 2 pm; the second repeat will be aired on March 15 beginning 3 pm; and the third at 9:00 pm on March 19.
“We have been inundated by requests from our viewers for a repeat of the sensational ODI. Keeping the viewers’ interest in mind, we are making special efforts to showcase the historic match,” said Sricharan Iyengar, Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, ESPN Software India Pvt Ltd.
Australia had set a very challenging total of 434, the highest ODI total, till the Springboks rose to the challenge and broke this record scoring 438 runs in the process. With this win South Africa also took the series 3-2. The ODI was a statistician’s delight as a plethora of world records got smashed as batsman after batsman from both the countries splashed the park with boundaries.
The match witnessed a blitzkrieg by batsman from both sides resulting in a total of 26 sixes and 87 fours. The match saw several records tumble – highest One Day team total, most expensive bowling analysis, two 150s in a match, and Australia losing a head-to-head One Day series for the first time in four years.
