In the week gone by (October 16-October 20) there were many major happenings in the media, advertising and marketing world despite the ongoing festive season. We put the Spotlight on how the broadcast industry has been prepping up for Diwali and is now slowly on the road to recovery as advertising spends get back on the right track after the double whammy of GST and demonetisation. Another big announcement of the week was the appointment of CVL Srinivas as the WPP India Country Manager. The responsibility came as an additional charge along with his role as CEO, South Asia, GroupM, as announced by Sir Martin Sorrell, CEO, WPP who was in the country for a board meeting. The company had its first meet in India about 20 years ago in 1997. Sir Sorrell hinted that Group M might expand in India soon and that they were looking for ‘best acquisitions’. Another major development to unfold this week was the resignation of Anup Vikal, CFO and general counsel of Jasper Infotech, which owns and operates Snapdeal. Media reports suggest that he may join Essar Oil as its new CFO. India Today founder and Editor-in-chief Aroon Purie announced his retirement and transferred the reigns of the organisation to daughter Kalli Purie making her the Vice Chairperson of The India Today Group.
