RAM Rambling: It’s Radio Mirchi Vs Friends FM in Kolkata during afternoons

According to RAM data for 19 weeks from week 31 to week 49, from 12 noon to 4 pm, all people 12 years and above, Radio Mirchi and Friends FM are in a neck and neck fight for the top spot, leaving no clear winner. Big FM, on the other hand, is comfortably placed at the second slot. Fever FM is another player that has made steady gains in the few weeks during the afternoon prime time and is comfortably placed at the third slot.

While there is no clear No 1 player in the Kolkata market during afternoons, week 49 ended with Radio Mirchi getting an 18 per cent share of the market. The FM station had reached its highest peak on week 42 with 20.1 per cent of the market share. Closely competing with Mirchi for the top spot is Friends FM, the ratings of both Radio Mirchi and Friends FM are neck and neck in Kolkata, however, on week 49, Friends FM had a 15.8 per cent share of the market, a slide from 18.2 per cent market share on week 48.

Big FM also saw steady gains in terms of ratings, thus inching closer to Friends FM. Week 49 ended with Big FM scoring 14.6 per cent of the market share. The FM station was at its highest peak on week 37 with 14.7 per cent share of the market.

Fever FM has also seen an increase in its ratings, however the FM station is way below the top three FM stations in Kolkata. Fever FM reached a market share of 11.1 per cent from 7.2 per cent on week 31.

The fourth slot also sees a close fight and has led to a clutter of FM players that include Meow FM, Red FM, Radio One, Aamar FM, AIR FM2 Gold and AIR FM1 Rainbow.

The other clusters of FM stations in the Kolkata market include Power FM, Akashavani and Vividh Bharati.
