RAM Rambling: Big FM continues massive lead in Bangalore; Fever makes some gains too

According to the latest RAM data, Big FM continues its massive lead in Bangalore during week 45 to week 9 in the SEC ABC category. Its nearest rival, Radio Mirchi, is a distant second, though the FM station has managed to make slight gains in its ratings in the last two weeks.

Fever FM, which has consistently maintained its third position, has also managed to see an increase in its ratings and has inched closer to the No. 2 player. In fact, Fever FM managed to reach the No. 2 position in on week seven with a marginal lead over Mirchi. However, Radio Mirchi reclaimed its second spot in weeks 8 and 9.

Radio City has also maintained a lot of consistency in its ratings to stay at No. 4 position after Fever FM, followed by AIR FM1 Rainbow at No. 5 and Red FM and Radio One. The other clusters of FM stations include, AIR FM1 Vividh Bharati, Radio Indigo, Gyan Vani and Akashavani.

While Big FM has mainly led the Bangalore FM market, the 17-week trend clearly shows Big FM ratings surge ahead of the others, nevertheless week 9 ended with Big FM getting 20.8 per cent of the market share. The FM station was at its highest peak on week 7 with 20.9 per cent of the market share. The only time both Big FM and Radio Mirchi came neck and neck was on week 49, when Big FM scored 18.8 per cent of the market share, while Radio Mirchi scored 18.4 per cent of the market share, following which Big FM surged ahead of Radio Mirchi.

Radio Mirchi, on the other hand, has comfortably maintained its second position for a very long time. However, week 9 ended with the FM station getting 16.3 per cent of the market share. Radio Mirchi was at its highest peak on both weeks 45 and 49 with a market share of 18.4 per cent and on both these weeks Radio Mirchi had narrowed down the gap with Big FM.

Fever FM ended week 9 with 14.5 per cent of the market share. The only time the FM station was at its highest peak was on week 52 with 15.5 per cent market share. On week 7, when Fever FM became No. 2 in Bangalore, it had a market share of 15.3 per cent.
