Radio pays an ode to strong and empowered women

Radio and women have always shared a special relation, for it is the medium that gives company to a number of toiling housewives and working women alike. With the women’s day fervour in the air, broadcasters go all out to make the day special for ladies across the country.

exchange4media takes a look at how women can pep up their day by tuning into their daily radio favourites…

Safety push
In the milieu of all the crimes and bias against women, a number of broadcasters have taken an initiative not only to promote women’s safety, but also to urge the ladies to fight back.
Radio Mirchi Delhi will mark the day with a women’s day out as a part of the ‘Dilli Meri Hai’ campaign. The initiative will give lucky winners an opportunity to enjoy their day out away from the daily household chores and will be gifted a Mirchi pepper spray to equip women with a safety tool. Big FM Chennai has tied up with a karate school to provide free self-defense workshops to women.

To ensure the safety of infant girls and demonstrate resent against female infanticide, Red FM (East) has created a campaign named ‘Munni Vardaan Hui’. To create awareness, Red FM RJs shall visit houses and bless the new born baby girls with gifts. The initiative banks on the name Munni as it is the original symbolic name for all little girls in India and spreads the message that a girl is a boon not only to her family but also to the nation.

Spirit of womanhood
A lack of appreciation and negligence often reduces a woman’s spirit and respect for herself. To give a boost to females across the nation, broadcasters bring on air iconic women.

Radio City Mumbai gave women achievers across the city a chance to speak about their awesome journey. Planetradiocity introduced ‘Maya’ - a show dedicated to women. It is a woman’s diary about her life, narrated in the form of a story.

Fever FM Mumbai initiated the Fever Mumbai Dabang Force – wherein women who have fought against any crime against them came forward to share their story and be a part of the force and inspire other women to fight against the wrong done to them.

Oye FM Mumbai will celebrate the day by giving recognition to all those women who work behind the scenes.

Dose of fun
Every special day is incomplete without a dose of fun when one can forget her woes and enjoy the day. Big FM initiated a campaign named ‘Women’s Day, Husband’s Pay’ to give their female listeners a chance to find out how well their spouse knows them. RJs will host compatibility tests between husband and wife and winning women will be gifted a day of fun and pampering.

Radio City Delhi will give their women listeners a day off by RJs visiting homes and doing the daily chores for the lady of the house, giving her some free time for herself.

Radio Mirchi Mumbai has organised a music concert named ‘She Rocks’ giving their female listeners an opportunity to go out and have some ‘me time’. In sync with the theme of celebrating womanhood, the leading artist of the show will be vocalist Subha Mudgal who will pay a musical ode to women across the country.

Oye FM Delhi takes a fun route by playing a pool of famous dialogues spoken by iconic women on the big screen. Listeners will get a chance to vote for their favourite dialogue and the contestant who voted for the most popular dialogue will be selected by a randomiser and win prizes.

While people do their best to make the day special for their ladies, exchange4media takes a moment to salute women across the world who strive daily and succeed in their own unique ways.
