Radio Indigo to roll out in Panaji in mid-May

Radio Indigo 91.9 FM, a Jupiter Capital venture that was launched in Bangalore on September 2006, is all set to roll out its second station in Panaji in May this year. Embracing a mood-based programming approach, the station will play slow, peppy numbers at the start of the day and increase the tempo as the day progresses, said K Sanjay Prabhu, COO, Radio Indigo.

He further said that in sync with the pulse of Goa, the station would play a vibrant array of music from pop, classic rock, hip-hop, jazz to world music, round the clock. “Indigo will cater to the inherited and nurtured international music legacy of Goa,” Prabhu said.

Prabhu said the programming of radio station would follow the Contemporary Hit Radio format “This is a compilation of hits from around the world with a distinctly Goa slant. There will be genre-specific shows over the weekend, which will play jazz, retro, world music and hard rock,” he added.

The programming also includes three internationally syndicated countdowns: the American Top 40 with Ryan Seacrest of the ‘American Idol’ fame; the Top 20 countdown with Casey Kasem, who is the father of the radio countdown; and Putumayo World Music Hour — the music from around the World On One show.

When queried whether Radio Indigo was planning to enter new markets, Prabhu said, “We want to be in markets where we see potential. As of now, we have recognised and believe in the potential of Bangalore and Goa. As we go along the way, if we identify an opportunity in some markets, we will make our presence felt. Maybe in the third phase of FM license bidding, we would acquire few licenses and enter into other markets.”
