Radio highlights public’s issues this Republic Day

Even as the country is coming out against corruption and fighting for fundamental rights, radio players taking various initiatives to boost listeners’ spirit and hopes. This Republic Day, radio players have designed initiatives that deal with the burning issues that the nation is facing today.

Women’s Woes
In the aftermath of the gruesome Nirbhaya gang rape case, women’s safety has not only become a concern, but also a question mark on the very existence of humanity in fellow citizens. To tackle this serious concern, stations such as Radio City, Radio Mirchi and Fever FM are using Republic Day as an occasion to create awareness among listeners.

Radio City will initiate an on ground campaign, which aims at giving ‘wings of freedom’ to women. The network will train women in the skills of self defence across the country. The Fm player has tied up with a number of certified trainers who will conduct a four-day physical training session for participants.

The trainers have designed the module in a manner to cover all the essentials in spite of the short schedule. Improvement in reflexes and reaction time is one of the key highlights of the training. Interested listeners can message Radio City to enrol in the initiative.

Radio Mirchi Delhi has designed an initiative asking their listeners to declare a zero tolerance policy against rapes, molestations and eve teasing. After all the protests and marches, the Justice Verma committee has ruled out castration and death for the rapists, bringing the nation back to a place where women have to live in the shadows to protect themselves from prying eyes.

Radio Mirchi RJs will speak to Delhiites and take their opinion on air so as to pass the message to the people that they should not be cowed down and should demand their safety from the police.

Fever FM Bangalore has formed a panel which includes women from all walks of life, who come together to discuss the rights that have been set for Indian women and how they can be best practiced. In the show ‘Mad Mornings’, RJ Shraddha has been building an interactive platform that voices the concerns of the common women and solutions from the authorities. This week-long campaign will culminate on January 26.

Freedom Fervour
To rejuvenate the spirit of freedom amongst the listeners, Big FM has announced an initiative named ‘Constitution of Radio’.  The campaign aims at giving listeners a few unique rights such as Right to Entertainment (Movie tickets), Right to Discounts (Gift vouchers), Right to Free Coffee (Coffee Vouchers), and Right to Relax (Spa Vouchers) drafted under the constitution of radio. The campaign has been launched across all 45 stations of Big FM.

In addition to the ‘Constitution of Radio’ campaign, Big FM will also air a special show between 11AM and 5PM, called ‘Bhaarat Ka Bioscope – India Ki Kahaani, Cinema Ki Zubaani’, which will be hosted by popular actor-singer Raghubir Yadav. The show will draw parallels from the story of the evolution of the Republic of India and Indian Cinema.

In a unique attempt to celebrate Republic Day with their editors, Radio Mirchi Mumbai will bring in Mahesh Bhatt as the guest editor. The acclaimed film director, producer and screenwriter will conduct the shows on Republic Day in his unique style.

Republic Day gives players an opportunity to have a strong beginning in the New Year with campaigns and initiatives that click with the listeners instantly. FM players by far seem to have done a good job by weaving social responsibility in their editorials to create a strong connect with the Indian citizens.
