The first ever Promax India Radio Awards 2006 to appreciate and recognise the excellence of radio marketing and promotion took place on July 13, 2006 in Mumbai. The awards, called as the Promax India Muse, were awarded in eight categories. TV’s funny man Cyrus Broacha wielded the microphone to carry the proceedings ahead and announced the winners.
Radio City bagged seven awards, including three Golds, in categories like Best Promotional Campaign by a Radio Station or Programme, Best Original Music Composition for a Promo and Best Promotional Item for a Radio Station or Programme. It won three Silvers for Best Original Music Composition for a Promo, Best Promotional Item for a Radio Station or Programme and Best Interactive Promotion for a Radio Station.
Radio One settled for the second position with three Awards, including two Golds for the Best Print Piece for a Radio Station or Programme and Best Interactive Promotion for a Radio Station.
Other winners at the Awards included Red FM (one Gold for Best Radio Promo-In-House – Music Station/Programme), Radio Mirchi (one Gold for Best Use of Library Music for a Promo), and O&M for WorldSpace (Gold for Best Use of Outdoor Advertising).
One special award by Ficci, called the Living Legend Award, was awarded to veteran presenter and broadcaster Amin Sayani in recognition of his illustrious career and years of work on the Indian radio.
