Power FM bats for Sourav Ganguly

Even as the beleagured Sourav Ganguly is unsure of his immediate future, what with the ICC verdict on his six-match ban still pending, Power FM, one of the popular FM stations in his home city of Kolkata, has come out with a ‘Sourav, we are with you’ campaign.

While there were apparently several willing sponsors for this initiative, the channel eschewed sponsorship offers at the express request of the former Indian captain, who had earlier lent his ‘artiste id’ to the channel apart from having given an exclusive interview.

The campaign was kicked-off on air with dial-ins and messages from the listeners. It was also extended on the ground through floats that went around in as many as 70 locations across the city, essentially the favourite hang-outs of school and college kids like shopping malls and the Maidan.

Flex boards were also put up to enable Sourav’s fans to write their messages, and also interactive games and quizzes with station merchandise as prizes for the participants.

The campaign will culminate with a presentation of the numerous flex boards to Sourav on his return from Sri Lanka, where he has again taken his rightful place at the top of the Indian batting order.

Three lucky winners from among the participants in this campaign will get a lifetime opportunity to dine with Ganguly at his signature restaurant – Sourav’s – with live coverage on Power FM.

“We believe this campaign captures the feelings of cricket enthusiasts of the entire nation, and should not be seen as a parochial regional sentiment,” said Partho P Majumdar, Station Manager, Power FM, who is eagerly awaiting the return of the ‘Prince of Kolkata’.
