New DG for AIR appointed

Prasar Bharati Board in its meeting yesterday finalised the appointment of Brajeshwar Singh, a 1975 batch TN cadre IAS officer as the new DG of AIR. The post of DG AIR has been lying vacant since February after the retirement of TR Malakar. Prasar Bharati Board approved the name of Singh among the eight candidates who were shortlisted following an extensive round of interviews of the eligible candidates done on December 16 and 17. The new DG will be in place by end of this month.

In another crucial decision, the Board decided to launch 24-hour radio news channel from April 2 and two classical music channels from Lucknow and Bangalore from January 26. AIR will also be starting language broad casts in Delhi from January 26.
