Mirchi Music Awards to be held in Mumbai today

Radio Mirchi is gearing up for the third edition of the ‘Mirchi Music Awards’, which is being held in Mumbai on January 27, 2011.

Positioned and envisioned as the Grammys of India, the Mirchi Music Awards are purely Bollywood awards.

Tapas Sen, Chief Programming Officer, Radio Mirchi, said, “The Award has already created a high benchmark of excellence in the Indian music industry. This is the gold standard of music awards of the country. It can be definitely said to be the Grammys of India. It is an award of excellence and not a popularity award. Coming from The Times of India Group, we don’t deliver anything less than excellence.”

The Awards will be decided by a high-powered jury comprising all the big names of the industry – from Javed Akhtar to Anu Malik. There are several categories on which these Awards are given. New categories, such as Sufi-inspired songs and classical-inspired songs have also been added this year. The ‘Best Album of the Golden Era’ will also be awarded.

Singers Shaan and Sonu Nigam will be anchoring the show. There will be special acts by Shreya Ghoshal, Daler Mehendi, and Mika, among others.

The group released the Little Hearts online-only campaign, #BreakSomeHearts, early this year and is on the path to make many more of its brands available on the digital platform
