Madras HC allows Sun TV to participate in Phase-III of FM auction

The Madras HC has issued an interim order letting Sun Group participate in Phase-III of FM auction process today.

However, Justice M Sathyanarayanan made clear that this is only an interim order, and the final outcome will be subject to the decision taken on the six petitions moved by Sun TV Network, KAL Radio, South Asia FM and its share holders, say media reports.

The company had challenged the Centre's decision to keep it out of the stage III FM auction. Justice M Sathyanarayanan passed the order on the petition filed by the company. Two days back, the High Court had admitted Sun TV's petition that sought a stay on auction of FM radio waves and a direction to the information and broadcasting ministry to allow it to participate in them.

The court had given the ministry four weeks’ time to reply.

The auction for the third phase of private FM radio channels is likely to begin on July 27, Additional Solicitor-General G Rajagopalan is reported to have said on Tuesday.
