IRF 2008: Red FM shines at Indian Excellence in Radio Awards

The India Radio Forum 2008, held in Mumbai on May 30, culminated in the Indian Excellence in Radio Awards 2008. Red FM led the winners’ list with nine awards, followed by Radio Mirchi, which bagged four awards. A total of 26 awards were given out this year. This year also saw the introduction of four new categories – Excellence in New Age Technology, Excellence in Communication, Best New Launch and Best FM Brand.

Red FM bagged the nine awards in categories like ‘Best Programming’ for its breakfast show, ‘Best Interactive Idea’, ‘Best Community Service’, ‘RJ of the Year – Hindi’, ‘Best Radio Promo for a Single Spot’, ‘Best Use of Advertisement’, ‘Best on Ground Activation by an FM Station’, ‘Excellence in Communication Awards’. The station also bagged the ‘Best FM Brand’ Award.

Radio Mirchi received the four awards for ‘Best Radio Promo’ for Kannada, Bengali and Hindi languages, as also ‘RJ of the Year – Bengali’.

Big FM won Awards for ‘Best Programming Show – Telugu’, ‘RJ of the Year – Telugu’, and ‘Best Radio Promo – Tamil’.

Radio One and Radio City bagged two awards each, while Radio One Kannada bagged an award in the ‘Best Programming’ category for breakfast show and ‘RJ of the Year’, while Radio City won Awards for the ‘Best Cross Platform Communication’ and ‘Excellence in New Media Initiative’.

Other winners included Fever FM that won the ‘Best Radio Promo – English’ award, Sun Network for ‘Best Programming Category - Breakfast Show’. My FM won in the category ‘Best New Launch’ for its Indore station. WorldSpace Satellite Radio won the award for ‘Most Innovative Show’. Radio Mid-Day West (India) won the award for ‘Best RJ – Tamil’; Friends FM won for the ‘Best Programming Show – Tamil’; while Hit FM won the award for ‘RJ of the Year – English’.
