The India Radio Forum 2010 that was held in Mumbai on May 19 culminated with the Indian Excellence in Radio Awards 2010. Awards were given out in 30 categories. Red FM and Big FM led the awards tally, winning nine awards each, while Radio Mirchi secured the third spot by winning eight awards.
Red FM bagged the awards in 9 categories – Best Breakfast Programme/ Show (Hindi) for ‘Morning No 1 with Malishka’, Best Programme Broadcast after 11 am (Hindi) for ‘Mumbai Local’, Best Programme Broadcast after 11 am (Telugu) for ‘Fulltoo Bindaas’, RJ of the year (Telugu) for RJ Prateeka, Best Radio Promo - In-house (Hindi) for Prayaas, Best Creative Campaign and Best Media Campaign for ‘Malishka Ko Batau Kya’, Best On Ground/ Activation by an FM Station for Bajate Raho Awards Night, and Best FM Station for Red FM Mumbai.
Similarly, Big FM won in nine categories – Best Breakfast Programme/ Show (Tamil) and Best Breakfast Programme/ Show (Telugu) for ‘Big Vanakkam’ and ‘Happy Mornings’, respectively, Best Programme Broadcast after 11 am (Tamil) for ‘Jhill Jhill Neram’, Best Radio Programme (Kannada) for ‘Hale Recordu’, RJ of the Year (Tamil) and (Kannada) for RJ Ophelia and RJ Nethra, respectively, Best Radio Promo – In-house (Tamil) and (Telugu) for Station Promo and Happy Mornings, respectively, and the Best Community Service Award for ‘De Taali’.
The eight categories in which Radio Mirchi has won include – Best Radio Programme (Bengali) and (Gujarati) for ‘Sunday Suspense’ and ‘Hello Amdavad’, respectively, Best Radio Sparkler for ‘Mirchi Murga’, RJ of the Year (Hindi), (Bengali) and (Gujarati) for RJ Stutee, RJ Mir and RJ Dhvanit, respectively, RJ of the Year (Hindi - for Non-metro Stations) for RJ Vikrant, and Best Radio Promo - In-house (Gujarati) for ‘Aa Adavad Chhe’.
Radio City won in two categories – Best Radio Programme (Hindi – For Non- Metro Stations) for ‘Kal Bhi Aaj Bhi’ and Best Interactive Idea for ‘Joyride Window Seat’.
GroupM’s Maxus was the only media agency to win at the Indian Excellence in Radio Awards 2010. Maxus won in two categories – Most Effective Use of Radio in an Activation Campaign for Nokia 5800 Midas Touch and Most Effective Use of Radio in an Ad Campaign for ‘Radio Singh Salesman of the Year’.
