Govt ready with draft guidelines for satellite radio

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has framed the draft Satellite Radio Policy Guidelines based on the recommendations made by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

The draft policy envisages two kinds of licenses/ permissions – viz. (i) for issuing license to companies to provide satellite radio service in India and setting up of network and infrastructure relating thereto; and (ii) for permitting companies to seek registration of radio channels to be carried on such service. In addition, the draft policy provides for eligibility conditions, license fee, foreign investment norms and other regulatory provisions, etc.

This information was given by CM Jatua, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on July 14, 2009.

Jatua further said that draft policy provided for eligibility conditions, licence fee, foreign investment norms and other regulatory provisions.
