Golden Mikes 2014: The best in India's radio advtg to be honoured tonight

Stage is set for revealing the best in radio advertising in the country at exchange4media’s Golden Mikes Awards 2014. The awards ceremony is being held at the ITC Grand Central, Parel in Mumbai on January 31, 2014.

In its fourth edition, the core aim of Golden Mikes is to recognise brilliance and felicitate the minds that best leveraged the radio medium. This year, the jury had to sift through 537 entries across 41 categories, but they finally succeeded in whittling it down to best among the best.

Given the unique nature of the radio medium, it is not the easiest of mediums to create a commercial for, but like every year, there were those who showed an uncanny understanding of the medium and the daring to try something new, which made them rise above their peers.

The final nomination list saw some strong performers such as Ogilvy & Mather, which received 17 nominations across all categories, especially for their work for Gujarat Tourism and Mentos. Similarly, Thought Blurb’s ‘100 Years of Bollywood’ campaign for IFFI Goa 2013 seemed a favourite with nine nominations across a number of categories. Some other agencies with a strong presence in the final nomination list include JWT (seven), Mindshare (six) and Madison (five).

Among the radio stations, it was encouraging to see a number of regional players making it to the final selection. In fact, one jury member even commented that the level of work shown by some of the regional channels was far superior to even the national players. Players such as Radio Mango and Red FM Kolkata, to name a few, are examples of the regional channels that have received multiple nominations. Radio Mango has received 16 nominations, making it the third highest nominated channel. The top two nominated channels are Reliance Broadcast Network (which runs Big FM) with 22 nominations and Radio Mirchi with 18 nominations in all categories.

The esteemed jury for the Golden Mikes 2014 was chaired by Bharat Patel, Former Chairman of P&G Hygiene and Health and Former Chairman of ISA. It includes Rajul Kulshreshtha, MD, Xposure; Amitabh Srivastava, Regional Head (South Asia), Association of International Broadcasters; Shavon Barua, President (West and South India), Havas Worldwide; Amit Tiwari, Director, Country Head (Media), Philips India; Monica Tata, MD, HBO India (South Asia); Pradeep Dwivedi, Chief Corporate Sales & Marketing Officer, Dainik Bhaskar Group; Rameet Arora, Senior Director (Marketing, Menu Management & Communications), Hardcastle Restaurants (McDonald’s West and South operations); Amit Ghatak, GM (Marketing), CavinKare; Gautam Kiyawat, CEO (Madison Media Group) at Madison Communications; Anisha Motwani, Director & Chief Marketing Officer, Max Life Insurance; Roshan Abbas, MD, Encompass Events; Mayank Shah, Assistant Marketing Manager, Parle Products; and Sandip Tarkas, President (Customer Strategy), Future Group and CEO (Future Media & T24).
