Thanks to FM stations, listening to the radio is back in vogue, and Kolkata recently celebrated three years of FM radio in its midst. The various FM stations in this eastern metro lined up some special initiatives to mark the occasion.
Red FM, which completed three years in Kolkata on May 2, 2006, gave their listeners a chance to win specially customised 11-band digital radios every hour throughout that day by participating in a special ‘Red FM Birthday contest’.
The station’s RJs brought some cheer to the children in an SOS village in Salt Lake, when they spent the day with them and entertained them. The RJs hosted the popular request show ‘Mera Waala Gaana’ at the SOS village and played the favourite songs of the young residents of the village. The little ones also got to cut a cake to mark Red FM’s birthday.
Another FM player, Power FM also organised its birthday bash on May 2 at ‘I’ lounge Metropolis, which was well attended by Kolkata’s celebrities. A contest was held to mark the occasion in which the lucky winners got entry passes to the party. As a tribute to the GenNext spirit, Power FM is organising a painting exhibition by a child artist, who has overcome his disability and has done some wonderful creations in paint by using his feet.
Radio Mirchi decided to give itself a new makeover on its birthday on May 3. The FM station introduced a new jingle, new show promos and new breakend bumpers with a Bengali feel to it to mark the day. Radio Mirchi also launched another new property called ‘Mirchi Nights @ Trinca’s’ with a popular Bengali band.
The radio space in Kolkata is set to see more action in the next two years with the entry of new players, while the existing stations will of course want to further strengthen their positions along with setting the milestones.
