FM players to reveal their green side on World Environment Day

With issues like global warming and climate change gaining intense attention, World Environment Day, being observed on June 5, has assumed even more significance. Doing their bit to spread awareness about protecting our only home – Earth – FM players like Radio Mirchi, My FM and Radio City share their plans for the day.

Radio Mirchi has embarked on a ‘Going Green’ campaign to observe the special day. This initiative is aimed at spreading awareness about the effects of global warming and encouraging people to realise the importance of Going Green. Additionally, Radio Mirchi will salute and acknowledge all the corporates who have taken a step forward to make a difference to the environment and have set precedence for others to follow.

Srinivasa Shenoy, Cluster Head, Radio Mirchi, said, “Radio Mirchi has always been a step ahead in associating itself with finding solutions to problems prevalent in Delhi. With ‘Going Green’, we want to make our planet healthy, clean and a pollution free place to live in. We are confident that the responsible citizens of our country will appreciate our effort and extend their support to make it a successful initiative.”

Radio Mirchi RJs would urge the listeners to express their gratitude to Mother Nature and give them an opportunity to contribute towards protecting the environment. Listeners can also avail a chance to win bottled plants for their homes and offices by calling up the Radio Mirchi station and associating themselves with the campaign.

My FM, too, is celebrating this day across its 17 stations, which are geared to make the World Environment Day an occasion to create awareness about preserving the environment’s sanctity and popularise different environment friendly modes of transport and other day-to-day activities.

Harrish Bhatia’s, COO, My FM, said, “My FM has been making conscious efforts to move beyond being a pure entertainment station. Our World Environment Day activities are a part of such initiatives. Various My FM stations are doing a whole lot of activities like bicycle rallies, tree plantation drive, ‘Say No to Plastic Bags’ drive, etc., to create awareness about preserving environment and promoting environment friendly activities in our day-to-day lives.”

My FM’s Bhopal station has arranged a bicycle rally in association with a local cycling club, the Green Planet Bicycle Riders Association. This rally is being promoted on-air and through on-ground activities. The Indore station is arranging a children’s painting competition, which would be inaugurated by the local Mayor. The children would also participate in a plantation drive being run by the Mayor. The Jaipur station would discuss the price hikes in petro products that were announced a day ahead of the World Environment Day and relate it to environment-related issues. Nagpur and other My FM stations would also hold discussions on environment-related issues as also experts’ comments.

Radio City’s Jaipur station would observe World Environment Day along with Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) and a Jaipur-based NGO, Nature Club. On June 5, JDA is conducting a painting competition for school children with Environment as the theme at Nehru Balodyaan. Apart from this, RJ Ruby from would present a special edition of ‘Joyride’ from 10 am onwards to capture all the action for Jaipur’s radio citizens and speak to those present on environmental concerns.
