FM Phase II: Negotiations for CTI equipment commence in the presence of AROI

The Association of Radio Operators of India (AROI) on Monday met with BECIL, where six foreign radio equipment companies made their presentations for the CTI equipment needed for setting up the radio stations under the Phase II of FM radio expansion. Industry sources put the amount to be invested on CTI at around Rs 150 crore.

BECIL had concluded the process of seeking quotations by December. However, after AROI demanded revisiting the process and have a say on the pricing negotiation, BECIL accepted the demand.

“Responding to our demand in which we had stated that FM radio players be included in the price negotiations for the CTI equipment, BECIL has called this meeting. It will run till May 13. On subsequent days, pricing and equipment allocation formula will be finalised,” said Rajiv Mishra, Convener, AROI.

Claiming it to be a victory for the newly formed AROI, Mishra said, “We appreciate BECIL’s cooperation in this regard. This will increase the confidence level of AROI members on BECIL. We have demanded that the infra installation work be finished within eight weeks. We expect the new stations will start operation by January next.”

Eleven companies, including an Indian company, had submitted Request for Proposal (RFP) for supplying equipment, but the Indian company was disqualified at the preliminary scrutiny level as it had no prior experience in the field. Of the 10 remaining participating companies, six had qualified for supplying the equipment – Alan Dick, Kathrein, RSF, Rymsa, SWR and Zampro.
