ERAA 2010: Awards reiterate creative excellence, say Jury members

As the last date for the exchange4media Radio Advertising Awards (ERAA) 2010 approaches fast on September 20th, the distinguished Jury panel is looking forward to some scintillating work in radio advertising. The first ever ERAA 2010 will be held in Mumbai on October 7 and will recognise work done in the field of radio advertising for the period July 2009 to June 2010.

The jury members include Lynn de Souza, Chairman & CEO, Lintas Media Group; Agnello Dias, Co-Founder & CCO, Taproot India; Sandip Tarkas President, Customer Strategy, Future Group, India; Anupam Vasudev, EVP, Marketing & Communications, STAR India Pvt Ltd; Piyush Mishra, Actor, Music Director, Lyricist & Writer; Anup Jain, Head - Marketing, Pizza Hut; Siddhartha Rao, Founder & CEO, Webchutney; Nima Namchu, Creative Head, Contract Advertising; and Harish Bhimani, well-known voiceover talent and voice actor.

‘There’s a lot of hidden talent in radio’

Nima Namchu, Creative Head, Contract Advertising, said, “Awards are something we look forward to. We hope these Awards are professional and reiterate the creative excellence. The expectations are high on these Awards. We hope to get good entries from all the agencies.”

Anup Jain, Head - Marketing, Pizza Hut, said, “This is an pioneering effort by a group like exchange4media to recognise the brands doing good work on radio. This will help in getting attention towards work done outside print and TV. These innovative Awards will help in brand building and building the business, which often goes unrecognised. We are happy to participate in the ERAA jury.”

According to Sunit Tandon, Director, IIMC (Indian Institute of Mass Communication), “Radio is a very important medium, and we need to increase its importance with expansion in Phase III of FM radio. Therefore, it’s a good idea to do these Awards and I wish exchange4media all the best for these Awards.”

Harish Bhimani remarked, “These Awards will have long-term encouragement down the line and will create a niche. The Mirchi Kaan Awards belong to a radio channel. Keeping that in mind, the exchange4media Radio Advertising Awards are completely independent, like the Oscars or Filmfare Awards. Coming from an established media house, these Awards are more balanced, more appreciated, balanced critique team. I am happy that an independent media house has taken such an initiative.”

Piyush Mishra too said that the Awards were a good initiative by the exchange4media Group and added, “These Awards will rise if given proper weightage by the group. The strength in the voice is very good in radio. Radio has got a lot of power and there is a lot of hidden talent in radio.”

Awards Categories:

The inaugural ERAA will have 22 categories, which have been divided into four broad categories – media, creative, broadcaster and excellence awards.

The media category includes Best Brand Integration on Radio – Corporate/ Retail, Best Radio Media Innovation – Corporate/ Retail, Best Unique Use of Multiple Stations, Best Use of Radio in a Media Plan – Corporate/ Retail, Best Use of Radio in a Media Plan – Retail, Best On Ground Activation for a Client – Corporate, Best On Ground Activation for a Client – Retail.

The creative category includes Best Radio Creative – Telecom Services/ Retail, Best Radio Creative – Media (all media and related products and services)/ products, Best Radio Creative – Services (excluding telecom, retail and media), and Best Use of Craft in Radio.

The broadcaster category includes Best CSR Initiative and Best Client Sponsored on Ground Activation done by a Radio station for self. In the Excellence Awards category there are the Radio Media Agency of the Year, Campaign of the Year – Corporate, and Campaign of the year – Retail, Radio Advertiser of the Year.
