Times Internet Ltd, the Internet venture of Bennett Coleman and Company Ltd, has launch mobile versions (mPapers) of their flagship dailies, Times of India and Economic Times. Christened ‘TOIMOBILE’ and ‘ETMOBILE’, the mPapers are currently in the beta phase.
Rahul Kansal, Brand Director, TOI confirmed the development but refrained from sharing an official launch date for the initiative. He said, “We are aware that the mobile medium is growing rapidly in the country and we are putting in lots of efforts to utilise this medium effectively.”
To access the mPapers, readers will have to enter the respective addresses of the publication on their GPRS enabled mobile phone browsers. These editions will be updated constantly with the latest news and reports akin to the web editions.
The ET mobile edition will have four main sections. While the ‘Latest’ section will give the latest news and updates from the business sector, ‘All sections’ will give a break-up of all news by the industry it comes under. The ‘Stocks’ section will have a graph showing real time stock movements on BSE and NSE, while the ‘Portfolio’ section will help in managing the user’s stock portfolio.
The TOI mobile edition, too, has various sections, including columnists, sports, movies and city supplements. A special section on ‘Cricket’ is also available along with a scorecard on India match days. A section called the ‘Most Reads’, featuring the most popular stories of the day, is also available in the mobile edition.
