The Times of India Group has firmed up its plans to launch ‘Delhi Mirror’, the Delhi version of its tabloid ‘Mumbai Mirror’. It has hired Kamlesh Singh, currently Senior Editor with news channel CNN-IBN, as Editor for the new product. According to informed sources, The Times Group is targeting an August launch.
When contacted for details, Rahul Kansal, Brand Director, The Times of India, was noncommittal, but did not deny the report. “As a dynamic company, we have many plans to launch new products, but what form it will take, whether it will be a morning daily, or an afternoon one, whether it will be bundled with The Times of India, is very difficult to say at this point of time,” was all he would reveal.
However, when asked whether he thought the market in Delhi was ready for a new daily print product, Kansal commented, “Delhi is a more mature market than many other cities and we believe it is ready to adopt new print brands.”
Kamlesh Singh is expected to join his new assignment from July 1. Before CNN-IBN, Singh was Deputy Editor, Today, from the India Today stable, for five years. He was also with Asian Age, Delhi as Associate Editor before moving to Ahmedabad as Resident Editor.
Mumbai Mirror, which hit the stands in Mumbai on May 30, 2005, is bundled with the The Times of India’s Mumbai edition and is targeted at the younger and emerging readers segment.
