Times Group restructures Response

Bennett, Coleman and Company Ltd, better known as The Times Group, has effected senior level changes in its Response division with the intention to expand business footprint and corner higher market share.

The company has realigned the 25 verticals in Response into two sets, and has appointed a Director for each of the sets. The realignment is in effect from September 2012.

Sameer Sainani, who comes from the BCCL stable itself, will be in charge of retail and allied verticals.

Arunabh Das Sharma, President, BCCL explained, “We have given special focus to retail because not only is retail our single largest vertical, but also because we expect that regulatory changes will lead to consolidation in the vertical. Hence, we needed a senior resource for this vertical.”

Joy Chakraborthy has also made a comeback to The Times Group. Chakraborthy will look after verticals such as BFSI (business and financial services), media and entertainment, auto, travel and tourism, consumer durables and IT. In addition to this, the six Metro branch heads that includes Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore will also report to him.

Both Directors – Chakraborthy and Sainani – would be based in Mumbai and report to Arunabh Das Sharma.

Sujoy Ghosh, a senior Response hand at the company has quit and is serving his notice period till end of September

Speaking on the overall thought process behind the changes, Sharma explained, “The days of aggregated go-to-market are over. And we are going in a disaggregated way. We have many brands, within in which there are verticals and then the layer of geographies in that. In all, this opens several sub-segments. The way we go to market, is on the basis of these market dynamics and the changes you see is on the back of achieving the tasks of expanding business footprint, getting greater traction and building higher share of the market. If you want something done, you need to find responsible people and then let them do their job. I believe this realignment will play a crucial role in better serving our clients.”

Prior to his role at Response, Sainani was with Times Group Company ENIL (Entertainment Network India) as Chief Revenue Officer. He has been with the company that operates brands such as Radio Mirchi, since March 2003 in various roles. Before The Times Group, Sainani was with Electrolux and PepsiCo.

Chakraborthy comes from TV Today, where he had joined in December 2011. Prior to TV Today, he was with Zee Entertainment Enterprises as Executive Director – Revenue and Niche Channels. He had joined Zee in March 2005 to head the ad sales function of the company. Before ZEE, he has worked with STAR India and BCCL.
