Spenta Multimedia acquires Mumbai International Boat Show & ‘India Boating’ magazine

Spenta Multimedia, India’s leading custom publisher with a portfolio of over 20 custom and four consumer magazines, has acquired Mumbai Boat Show Pvt Ltd, owner of Mumbai International Boat Show and Blue Water Publications Pvt Ltd, publishers of ‘India Boating’ magazine.

The Mumbai International Boat Show, which is supported by the Government of Maharashtra, is the only third ‘official’ calendar event in Mumbai, after the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon and The Times of India Mumbai Festival. Now in its 4th year, the Mumbai International Boat Show has been enjoying phenomenal success year-on-year and is today seen as being on par with annual calendar boat shows the world over.

‘India Boating’ magazine, now in its third year, was launched by Blue Water Publications in 2007 to fulfill the information needs of India’s influential and growing yacht and boating community. A first of its kind in the Indian market, ‘India Boating’ magazine offers its readers the finest in product research and lifestyle reporting.

Commenting on the expanded scope of Spenta Multimedia’s publishing and event business, its Proprietor, Maneck Davar, said, “The Indian luxury lifestyle market is seeing a fast emerging nautical culture. Indeed, the fact that India is an important emerging leisure marine market is evident by the growing participation of global players in the marine industry in the Mumbai International Boat Show. Spenta Multimedia has for some time now been focusing on developing publishing and event properties in the luxury lifestyle segment. We began with ‘Hair’ magazine in 2007. The launch of ‘Hair’ was followed by our acquisition of ‘Marwar’ magazine and the Marwar Mega Wedding and Marwar Lifestyle shows from Arpan Publishing in early 2008. Spenta also publishes ‘Solitaire International’, which is India’s best known monthly trade publication in the gem and jewellery industry. We now see the decision to acquire Mumbai International Boat Show and ‘India Boating’ magazine as a logical next step in expanding our presence in the luxury lifestyle segment as the boat show is not just about boats but about a premium lifestyle.”

India, Thailand and Malaysia are the upcoming markets in leisure boat marketing in Asia and the global players concentrating in these countries. The pleasure boating culture is more natural and in fashion in India than other Asian countries. This is because the love for water is a way of life in India. And the other reason could be that India has 16,000 km of waterways and 7,600 km of coastline. This gives India an immense potential for the boating and shipping industry. And this niche boating and yachting industry, which has become an integral part of luxury lifestyle, is giving a good growth to the magazines that cover this industry such as ‘Asia-Pacific Boating’ magazine, ‘Selling World Travel’, ‘Boatbuilder’ and ‘Boat Digest’, which can be competition for Spenta Multimedia’s ‘India Boating’ magazine.
