Sahara to launch daily edition in Mumbai

As per reliable sources at Sahara, the Subroto Roy group is launching a broadsheet daily edition for the city of Mumbai. The date of the launch has not yet been finalized and the company is still scouting the market for possible inroads into the readership graph. The newspaper is being designed from Sahara’s Delhi office and is in English.

In February 2003, it was announced that the Sahara Group, after its foray into electronic media had decided to launch three weekly broadsheets in Hindi, English and Urdu. At the time, Sahara announced the launch of 32 editions launched from several cities for its Hindi newspaper, which included New Delhi, National Capital Region, Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh, Rajasthan, Bihar and Jharkhand, Mumbai and a few cities down south. As per Sahara, the broadsheets were to offer city-wise local coverage of news and features, analysis, views and opinions and also exclusive columns by Hindi, English and Urdu columnists.

That’s as they say, history, but makes one wonder about the Mumbai edition. Details about the launch are still being kept under wraps. Sahara declined to give an official word on the matter.
