Close on the heels of launching its Bangalore edition, Roznama Rashtriya Sahara, Sahara Parivar’s Urdu daily, is now eyeing the international market. The Group has plans to launch the international edition of the daily initially in London and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. The launch is slated to take place by 2008 end.
The Group also has plans to spread to Chicago, New York, Toronto and Dubai with the Urdu daily. “We are already on the go for the plans to spread the Urdu daily to other parts of the world. Our aim is to unite countries and not create a rift between communities. We have no match as far as our quality and content is concerned. We are the No. 1 Urdu publication in five places – Lucknow, Bihar, Delhi, Gorakhpur, Maharashtra and West Bengal,” said Aziz Burney, Head of Urdu Media Operations.
The Group already has its presence in South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Jordan, Libya, Afghanistan and Iraq with an Urdu weekly Alam-e-Sahara.
“Many of these countries already have strong presence of Arabic and Persian publications. I had been to Washington and Toronto where I witnessed a huge potential for Urdu publication. Toronto has more than six Urdu newspapers,” added Burney.
“At the moment we are concentrating on the launch of the Urdu news channel. We are waiting technological upgradation as well as for the green signal from the I&B ministry. The launch of the international edition would be next in our plans,” Burney further said.
