Printing Industry Development Council meeting today

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, has called the first meeting of the reconstituted Development Council for the Printing Industry today.

The meeting convened by S. Jagadeesan, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, will be chaired by Hoshang. S. Billmoria, Managing Director, Tata Infomedia Limited and Chairman of the Development Council while Kartar Singh, Director / Deputy Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion is the Member - Secretary.

The other prominent members of the 25 - member council include President, All India Federation of Master Printers, President, Delhi Printers Association, Chairman, Development Council for Pulp, Paper and Allied Industries, Joint Secretary In-charge of Printing and Paper Industries, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Joint Secretary Incharge of Publication, I & B Ministry, Director Indian Institute of Packaging, Director, Bureau of Indian Standards, Director (Printing); Directorate of Printing, Ministry of Urban Development, besides presidents of various state associations of printers.

According to the agenda of the meeting, there will be discussion on the current status of Printing Industry and the measures required for its long-term growth. The discussion will also revolve around the need to remove the existing anomalies in the custom duties on paper, newsprint, machinery and consumables.

The meeting is expected to evolve a Plan of Action for the Development Council.
