Print war between TOI and HT spreads to NCR; TOI launches Gurgaon edition

The Times of India, too, has joined the dailies making a beeline for the National Capital Region with the launch of its Gurgaon edition on September 14, 2010. The issue will further boost the paper’s presence in the NCR region. The Gurgaon edition will see a dedicated team of editors and correspondents, led by CP Surendran, battling for supremacy in the market against Hindustan Times.

Speaking to exchange4media, Rahul Kansal, Chief Marketing Officer, The Times of India Group, said, “Gurgaon, as we all know, is a miracle city with an unprecedented growth rate. It is a fast growing metropolis. The Gurgaon residents want to know more about their city and administration, hence the launch. We will also take forward the concerns of the residents of Gurgaon.” Speaking about the marketing and distribution plans, Kansal added, “We were already a strong player in Gurgaon. However, the launch will certainly give an impetus to our growth in the region.”

The issue will be different from the main newspaper, primarily in its city pages. However, it will also see a separate front page and business page, which will cater to businesses based in Gurgaon, from time to time. Kansal informed that a dedicated supplement for Gurgaon, on the lines of Delhi Times, would be taken out soon. The issue will be launched at the same price point as the Delhi issue.

Interestingly, Hindustan Times, too, had recently launched its Gurgaon and Noida editions to strengthen its NCR presence. The presence of The Times of India’s newly launched edition will intensify the supremacy battle in the Delhi-NCR market between the two media big-wigs.
