Pradeep Guha gets a ‘human chain’ farewell at Times Office in Mumbai

It was not a big news or that special event that was creating all the excitement in The Times of India office in Mumbai on Wednesday. It was Pradeep Guha’s last day in office but a day which he probably will remember for the rest of his life more than any other day in his professional life. The Old Lady of Bori Bunder seemed like it was overwhelmed with emotions from long-time colleagues.

There was a ‘human chain’ starting from Guha’s office on the Response floor and leading right up to the entrance of the building and even spilling on to the road in front of The Times of India building. Guha’s colleagues, in recognition of his contribution to The Times Group, his towering personality and probably the way Guha touched their professional lives and to some extent their personal lives, showered their gratitude and affection.

The colleagues included people from all levels and all departments including senior editorial people.

A very senior editorial person in The Times Group in Mumbai who witnessed this spectacle, told exchange4media, “The magnitude of the emotions among colleagues was unprecedented and is a reflection of Guha’s imprint on The Times Group over the last 28 years.”

Another senior editorial hand conceded that the ‘human chain’ was amazing, but, in the same breath, said that despite this outpouring of sentiment, not many people were leaving the group alongwith Guha. Even industry professionals who hold Guha in high esteem feel that Guha’s leaving Times would not have too much impact on The Times Group and the show will go on. Guha joins Zee on January 15.

The Pradeep Guha show will now play on the Zee network. Industry observers will closely watch if his presence will garner high TRPs for the clutch of Zee channels.
