Prabhat Khabar goes for a revamp; brings in more visual and content appeal

Prabhat Khabar, one of the leading Hindi dailies from Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, and Siliguri, has adopted a new look from June 22, 2006. The paper last attempted to change its looks, though a minor one, around two and a half years back.

As part of the new look, the paper has been made more eye catching in terms of its visual appeal and presentation of news, wherein more emphasis has been laid on making them brief, concise and to the point, which was otherwise long earlier, informed Harivansh, Chief Editor, Prabhat Khabar.

From now on the paper will be laying more stress on sports and business as the number of pages dedicated to these two sections have been increased to two from one. The layout of all supplements that the paper provides everyday has also been changed.

Explaining the reason behind the change, Harivansh said, “We had regular interaction with our readers and in the last one and a half years we received suggestions from our young readers who said that instead of giving long news we should make them crisp and to the point. Based on their feedback we decided to make the paper visually appealing and make the news items concise so as to make it compelling enough for a reader to pick up the paper.”

The paper has also effected major changes in its Sunday edition. Separately pages are now devoted to the share market (company news), serious dialogue with politicians, writers and academicians, technology and health. However, it may be mentioned here that overall the paper hasn’t increased the number of pages, only the content has been modified.

Moreover, there is a thrust towards investigative reporting, which is apparent in the Sunday main newspaper. There has been a change in the masthead, too, on Sundays, which, according to Harivansh, has become softer. He didn’t rule out the possibility of changing the masthead of the paper during weekdays too. It is likely after the readers’ feedback.

The price of the paper remains unchanged.

Though the change in content has been brought about internally, as far as the design and layout is concerned, Prabhat Khabar sought the advice of Brand Consultant A S Raghunath.
