PM extols Marathi daily Pudhari's role in journalism

Pudhari, a Marathi daily published from Maharashtra, Goa and North Karnataka, celebrated its platinum jubilee in Kolhapur on January 3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was present on the occasion, lauded the newspaper for raising public issues. He also appreciated the newspaper’s Chairman and Editor-in-Chief Padmashri Paratapsinh Jadhav for maintaining high standards of journalism.

“Pudhari has preserved the tradition of 75 years of fearless journalism and it is not an easy task,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister also paid tributes to the company’s founder GG Jadhav and unveiled his statue. Besides, he inaugurated the media house’s state-of-the-art printing press.

Newspapers, especially vernaculars, had displayed immense courage during the country's freedom struggle and Pudhari was one of them, the PM said.

'Marmavedh', a book consisting select editorials, and 'Sinhayan', a commemorative volume on Pratapsinh Jadhav and his contribution to journalism, were also launched on this occasion. Modi said the books would offer a glimpse of the country’s development.
