Open mag's Hartosh Singh Bal steps down after row with the management

After Siddharth Vardarajan and MK Venu of The Hindu, Hartosh Singh Bal, Political Editor of Open magazine has announced on Twitter that he is stepping down. The reason, gathered from industry reports and his tweet, is that he was unsatisfied with the management.

Bal tweeted, “Received termination notice from Open today after I refused Rs 15 lakh to move on quietly.”

Another tweet by Bal soon followed saying, “Offer culmination of month-long attempts to get me to leave without fuss. Decision imposed by owner Sanjiv Goenka. No reasons cited.”

exchange4media tried to contact R Rajmohan, Publisher of Open, but no response was received at the time of fling the report.

Talking about his exit with New York Times, Bal said that his letter of termination offered no reason for the decision, but that the RP – Sanjiv Goenka Group, which owns the magazine, had offered him generous severance pay in exchange for leaving quietly. He also noted that his departure had been preceded by the publication of an article sharply critical of both, Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi.

Bal is the co-author, with Gaurav Suri, of ‘A Certain Ambiguity: A Mathematical Novel’.
