New IRS 2013: Dainik Jagran tops dailies list

The Media Research Users Council (MRUC) has unveiled the data for the new Indian Readership Survey (IRS) on January 28, 2014.

As per the data, Dainik Jagran tops the list of publications in India with an Average Issue Readership (AIR) of 15,526,000, followed by Hindustan (AIR 14,245,000), Dainik Bhaskar (AIR 12,855,000), Malayala Manorama (AIR 8,565,000), Daily Thanthi (AIR 8,156,000), Rajasthan Patrika (AIR 7,665,000), The Times of India (AIR 7,253,000) which is the sole English daily in the Top Publications list, Amar Ujala (AIR 7,071,000), Mathrubhumi (AIR 6,136,000) and Lokmat (AIR 5,601,000).

Top Hindi Dailies:
Dainik Jagran tops the list of Hindi dailies with an AIR of 15,526,000. Hindustan is placed second with AIR of 14,245,000, followed by Dainik Bhaskar (AIR 12,855,000), Rajasthan Patrika (AIR 7,665,000), Amar Ujala (AIR 7,071,000), Patrika (AIR 4,628,000), hari Bhoomi (AIR 2,757,000), Prabhat Khabar (AIR 2,718,000), Navbharat Times (AIR 2,291,000), and Punjab Kesari (AIR 2,480,000).

Top English Dailies:
The list is led by The Times of India with an AIR of 7,253,000, followed by Hindustan Times (AIR 4,335,000), The Hindu (AIR 1,473,000), Mumbai Mirror (AIR 1,084,000), The Telegraph (AIR 937,000), The Economic Times (AIR 722,000) which is the only financial daily in the list, Mid Day (AIR 500,000), Deccan Herald (AIR 458,000), The Tribune (AIR 453,000), and Deccan Chronicle (AIR 337,000).

Top Language Dailies:
Three Gujarati dailies, two Malayalam dailies, two Marathi dailies and one daily each from Tamil, Telugu and Bengali languages have made it among the top language dailies. Malayala Manorama leads with an AIR of 8,565,000, followed by Daily Thanthi (AIR 8,156,000), Mathrubhumi (AIR 6,136,000), Lokmat (AIR 5,601,000), Ananda Bazar Patrika (AIR 5,515,000), Eenadu (AIR 5,380,000), Gujarat Samachar (AIR 4,339,000), Divya Bhaskar (AIR 3,770,000), Sandesh (AIR 3,724,000), and Daily Sakal (AIR 3,707,000).

Top 10 Magazines:
Malayalam fortnightly Vanitha leads the list with an Average Issue Readership of 2,762,000, followed by India Today (English) (AIR 1,531,000) which is the only English magazine in the list, Pratiyogita Darpan (AIR 1,492,000), Saras Salil (AIR 1,160,000), India Today (Hindi) (AIR 1,551,000), Samanyangyan Darpan (AIR 1,132,000), Manorama Thozil Veedhi (AIR 1,012,000), Grih Shobha (AIR 979,000), Mathrubhumi Arogya Masika (AIR 928,000), and Mathrubhumi Thozilvartha (874,000).

Top English Magazines:
India Today (English) leads with an AIR of 1,531,000, followed by Pratiyogita Darpan (AIR 583,000), The Sportstar (AIR 543,000), General Knowledge Today (AIR 540,000), Outlook (AIR 452,000), Competition Success Review (AIR 444,000), Readers Digest (AIR 362,000), Filmfare (AIR 276,000), Diamond Cricket Today (AIR 271,000), and Business Today (AIR 264,000).

Top Hindi Magazines:
The list is led by Pratiyogita Darpan with an AIR of 1,492,000, followed by Saras Salil (AIR 1,160,000), India Today (Hindi) (AIR 1151,000), SamanyaGyan Darpan (AIR 1,132,000), Grih Shobha (AIR 979,999), Jagran Josh Plus (AIR 781,000), Cricket Samrat (AIR 652,000), Meri Saheli (AIR 589,000), Grehlakshmi (AIR 521,000), and Sarita (AIR 476,000). 

Top Language Magazines:
Malayalam publications dominate the Top 10 Magazines list with as many as seven magazines. Malayalam fortnightly Vanitha is the most read language magazine with Average Issue Readership of 2,762,000. Another Malayalam publication, the weekly Manorama Thozil Veedhi is placed second with an AIR of 1,012,000. Monthly Malayalam magazine Manorama Arogya Masika is third in the list with an AIR of 928,000. In fourth position is Malayalam weekly Mathrubhumi Thozilvartha with an AIR of 874,000. Grihalakshmi, a monthly Malayalam magazine, is placed fifth with an AIR of 826,000. Tamil weekly Kumudam is at No. 6 with an AIR of 769,000, while Malayalam weekly Malayala Manorama is placed seventh with an AIR of 661,000. Tamil weekly Kumgumam is at No. 8, garnering an AIR of 658,000, followed by Malayalam weekly Balarama with an AIR of 621,000. Placed tenth is Bengali weekly Karmasangsthaan with an AIR of 614,000.
