The first anniversary issue of My Goa magazine was unveiled at a simple ceremony at the hands of veteran journalist and freedom fighter Lambert Mascarenhas at his Dona Paula residence.
Commenting on the occasion, the editor of the magazine Harshvardhan Bhatkuly said, “Lambert is a legend and it’s truly a happy moment for us that he is releasing our first anniversary special issue”.
Lambert Mascarenhas was the first joint editor of The Navhind Times and later founded Goa’s first English magazine, Goa Today in 1986, which he ran and edited for 19 years. He is also the author of several novels, for which he has received critical acclaim.
“My father was a great admirer of Mascarenhas and today it’s a proud moment for us to have him launch our milestone edition,” said Urvija Bhatkuly, Publisher of My Goa magazine and daughter of eminent journalist Chandrakant Keni.
The anniversary special of My Goa focuses on the socio-cultural aspects of Goa. The cover story focuses on the Goan identity, penned by Portuguese filmmaker Francisco Veres Machado. The cover photograph shot by Assavri Kulkarni, features actress Priyanka Bidaye in authentic Kunbi attire.
The 88-page collector’s issue also includes Vice Chancellor of Goa University, Dileep Deobagkar’s interview; Damodar Mauzo’s column eulogising the Goan thinker and scholar Fr. Hubert Olympus Mascarenhas; media celebrity Sandesh Prabhudesai on the turning points of his career; and a piece highlighting Kirit Maganlal’s business.
There is also a special photo feature on the Saturday Night Market and on the work done by Muskaan for cancer patients.
