Mid-Day makes senior editorial appointments

Mid-Day has appointed in Narendra Tripathi as Printer and Publisher, North, and Sachin Kalbag as Executive Editor. Prior to this, Tripathi was COO of Radio Mantra and Kalbag has been working with the India Today Group.

Speaking on his new assignment, Tripathi said, “I will be looking after the entire Northern operations of Mid-Day, which includes marketing, branding, ad sales, etc. We would be working in a way that can take forward the strength of Mid-Day and Jagran Group together.”

Before the stint with Radio Mantra, Tripathi was associated with NDTV from March 2007-July 2009 as Senior Vice President, Delhi. He was part of the launch team of NDTV 24x7 and NDTV Good Times.

Meanwhile, replacing Abhijit Majumder, Kalbag will head the four editions of the newspaper, including Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Bangalore. Kalbag brings a wide array of experience, including international stints. It may be noted that Kalbag had begun his career with Mid-Day as a trainee feature writer and copy editor. He said, “It is a huge honour for me to return to one of Mumbai’s iconic newspapers as its Executive Editor.”

Kalbag admitted that due to competition, other newspapers had tried to wrest that space from Mid-Day. He further remarked, “This is inevitable, and I acknowledge and appreciate that our competition is quite determined to do that. So, one of my prime challenges and responsibilities would be to retain and even enhance Mid-Day’s mindspace among Mumbai’s readers.”

Kalbag, administratively, will report to Manajit Ghoshal, CEO, Mid-Day Infomedia Ltd. However, editorially, the buck stops at him.
