IRS Q2 2010: Gujarati publications have a growth story to tell

As per the IRS Q2 2010 results, the top three Gujarati dailies have received positive growth in AIR (Average Issue Readership) as against the IRS Q1 2010 data. Gujarat Samachar leads the pack with an AIR of 5,218,000, a marginal growth of 0.02 per cent over the previous round.

Saurashtra Samachar has witnessed a huge double digit growth of 27 per cent as compared the previous IRS results. Divya Bhaskar and Sandesh are ranked second and third, respectively, in the list of top Gujarati dailies. Bombay Samachar, Kutch Mitra and Akila have seen negative growth in AIR in the latest round as against IRS Q1 2010.

On the other hand, Gujarati language periodicals have seen positive growth in IRS Q2, 2010. Weekly magazine Chitralekha is leading the field with an AIR of 146,000, as against AIR of 126,000 in Q1, a double digit growth of 15.87 per cent. Monthly magazine Grih Shobha with an AIR of 94,000 and weekly magazine Abhiyaan with an AIR of 59,000 are ranked second and third, respectively.
