Close on the heels of Outlook revising its cover price and ad rates, India Today has increased its cover price to Rs 25 from the issue dated September 26. The magazine has also hiked its ad rates by 9 per cent, effective from November 1. The price of Business Today and Cosmopolitan will also be hiked by 33 per cent from October.
Ashish Bagga, CEO, Living Media, said, “Increase in newsprint cost is one of the reasons for us to revise our cover price. The other reason is that we have not increased the price of India Today in the last three years, even though we give 10-12 line extensions with India Today.”
Malcolm Mistry, Publishing Director, India Today, said, “The increase in newsprint cost, inflation going up to 12 per cent and the value of the dollar going up have forced us to increase the price of the magazine. We are also increasing the ad rates by 9 per cent as against the 30 per cent suggested by INS.”
He further said, “We have increased the cover price as well as the ad rates because we did not want to put the complete pressure on the advertisers. However, 30 per cent is a huge increase and it would be unfair to our clients to make these changes midway through the financial year. We are hopeful that between these two moves we will be able to manage through.”
