The Indian Magazine Congress (IMC) is back in its fifth year, and this year the focus will be on the ‘Magic of Magazines’. IMC 2009 is being held in Delhi on November 5-6 and would see the participation of who’s who of the media and advertising fraternity. An initiative of the Association of Indian Magazines (AIM), the IMC is presented by Worldwide Media (WWM), in association with Chitralekha and Canon. exchange4media, Pitch and impact are the media partners.
The Congress will commence on November 5 with a welcome address, followed by a presentation on Indian Media by Nishant Singh of PricewaterhouseCoopers. This will be followed by a special address by Chris Llewellyn, President & CEO, FIPP. Aroon Purie, Chairman & Editor-in-Chief, India Today Group and Chairman, FIPP, will then deliver the keynote address.
Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni will deliver a special address, which will be followed by a Q&A session with the Minister, which will be moderated by Maheshwer Peri, President, AIM.
Numerous sessions have been lined over the two days. The sessions on Day One will commence with ‘Is Content the King even in troubled times?’. Paranjoy Guha Thakurta will moderate this session, which will have Vinod Mehta of Outlook, Ajit Balakrishnan of Rediff, and Tarun Tejpal of Tehelka as panel members. National Geographic’s Declan Moore will make a presentation on Alternate Revenue Model.
‘The Digital Panel’ will be moderated by Pradeep Gupta of CyberMedia. The panellists will include Kalli Purie of India Today Digital, Mike Lovell of Meredith and Vinod Thadani of GroupM. This will be followed by another discussion on ‘Language Publishing’. Bharat Kapadia of Lokmat will moderate this session and have among its panellsts Anant Nath of Delhi Press, Mitrajit Bhattacharya of Chitralekha, and Amit Tiwari of Philips India.
The panel on ‘Licensing’ will comprise Gotelli Sandra of Arnoldo Mondadori, James Hewes of BBC, Mike Greehan of Cueball, and Xavior Collaco of Media Transasia. WWM’s Tarun Rai will moderate this session.
Day Two will commence with a presentation on ‘Digital Publishing’ by Google’s Andrew Madden. This will be followed by a session on ‘Successful case studies of magazine advertising – Marketers’ perspective’, which will be moderated by Maneck Davar of Spenta Multimedia. The panel members will include Narayanan Rajaram of HUL and Suparna Mitra of Titan. The session on ‘Do magazines give a better ROI’ will be moderated by Pradyuman Maheshwari of exchange4media, while the panellists include Shashi Sinha of Lodestar and Ambika Srivastava of ZenithOptimedia.
Lynn de Souza of Lintas and Ashish Bagga of India Today Group will conduct a special session on ‘MRUC-NRS merger – What does it mean for magazines’, which will be followed by a presentation on ‘Innovation in Magazines using Technologies’ by Juan Senor of Innovation Consulting.
The session on ‘Organised Retail - The new paradigm’ will have Lorenzo Mauri of MEPE, Ashwin TS of Odyssey, Sivaraman Bala of Crossword and Outlook’s Alex Joseph as panel members. Mediamart’s Vivek Gaur will moderate this session.
The concluding session will be on ‘Alternate revenue streams for publishers’, which will be moderated by Anurag Batra of exchange4media Group. The panel members include Outlook Group’s Maheshwer Peri, Tarun Rai of WWM, and Shyam Malhotra of CyberMedia.
