HLL tops the list of biggest and fastest wealth creators: Motilal Oswal

According to the sixth annual study on wealth creation (for 1996-2001) done by Motilal Oswal, HLL along with Infosys Technologies were the fastest wealth creators respectively.

According to the study HLL created wealth worth Rs 37,738 crores in the period. Infosys Technologies had the fastest growing market capitalisation, with Rs 26,365 crores wealth created at a CAGR of 131.1 per cent.

Reliance Industries and Wipro were ranked second and third in the biggest wealth creators’ list. While Reliance Industries created wealth worth Rs 30,905 crores, Wipro created Rs 29,737 crores. Wipro was ranked second in terms of the pace at which it mopped up wealth, with a CAGR of 114.6 per cent. Satyam Computer at number three created wealth of Rs 7,154 crores at a CAGR of 112.1 per cent.

Last year’s toppers were Wipro (biggest wealth creator) and SSI (fastest wealth creator).

The IT, FMCG and pharma sectors dominated the list of wealth creators. They contributed 60 per cent of the wealth created in 1996-2001 compared to 58 per cent in the 1995-2000 study.

According to Motilal Oswal, the contribution of MNCs to the total wealth created ranged between 35 per cent and 50 per cent. It is only in the last two studies, including the current one, that the MNCs’ contribution has fallen below 30 per cent. The homegrown IT and pharma companies have displaced MNCs as a major wealth creating class.
