Hindustan Lever Limited (HLL) has consolidated its oral-care operations by transferring the business from its wholly owned subsidiary Indexport, to itself. Under the earlier arrangement, toothpowder and toothbrushes were marketed by the subsidiary, while toothpaste was marketed by HLL.
The rationale behind this move is to avoid confusion among consumers, the company has decided to bring all activities under one roof. Till now HLL's toothpowder were available through Pepsodent brand, its toothbrushes were sold under the Close-Up and Pepsodent brands.
The move will allows greater focus and synergies to its two main brands -- Close-up and Pepsodent, as the toothpaste’s are housed in HLL.
Indexport will now focus on the hair-oil business and redistribution of ice creams. Its hair oil brands --Nihar and Cococare is being manufactured by HLL and Indexport, while its marketing is done by the subsidiary. Indexport commenced the business of redistributing ice creams in 2000.
To support the business initiative, distribution infrastructure and will now distribute its leading brand Kwality Walls to the retail trade in select states of the country. It plans to expand the operation in a phased manner in future.
For 2000, Indexport recorded a turnover of Rs 280.47 crore compared with Rs 249.83 crore last year. Profit rose to Rs 9.80 crore against Rs 4.77 crore.
