Hindustan launches its Hapur edition

Hindi daily Hindustan has launched its hyper local Hapur edition (Uttar Pradesh) on January 24, 2011, with a total of eight pages dedicated to local news. Prior to this, Hindustan had launched its Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurgaon and Faridabad editions with hyper local news pages.

Shashi Shekhar, Editor-in-Chief, Hindustan, said, “Readers are more interested to know what is happening in their town. These territories needed hyper local news and I think these editions are fulfilling their local news demands.”

Shekhar added, “We have received overwhelming responses to our recent launches, hence, we came up with the Hapur edition.” Now, it is being speculated that Modinagar and Palwal could be the next targeted territories for Hindustan to launch its hyper local editions.

Hindi newspapers have been very active in the Delhi-NCR regions in recent times. Smaller towns, too, have been targeted for hyper local editions of various dailies. On January 15, 2011, Patrika had launched hyper local editions in Bhopal and Indore. For old and new parts of these cities, Patrika had divided its mainline newspaper into two parts – Golden and Metro editions.

It may be recalled that Hindustan Media Ventures Ltd, publishers of Hindustan, had announced a net profit of Rs 11.66 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2010. Prior to the Hapur edition launch, the newspaper had launched its Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) edition on December 16, 2010.
