DNA digs into HT to build Delhi ad sales team

It is time for Daily News and Analysis (DNA) to spread its wings and to gather force in other markets as well. While the appointments in the Mumbai market are gaining momentum, DNA has now targeted the Delhi market with an intention to build a team of around of 35 people there. The next in the agenda are Kolkata and Bangalore.

In Delhi, which would be a bureau office, DNA has begun with establishing the Ad Sales team. The first set of appointments comprises of professionals from Hindustan Times. Gurneesh Khurana, Head of training development and events at HT comes as GM Ad Sales. Gautam Srivastava, who was the Head of Appointments, comes in as DGM, Ad Sales; Deepayan Chaudhary, Head Display, too, comes in as DGM, Ad Sales. So far the specific areas to handle aren't divided between them. Rakesh Gopal takes the position of Chief Manager. Presently, these officials would be reporting in to DNA's Suresh Balakrishnan, who is overlooking the marketing and sales function of the paper.

Balakrishnan, however, said that this would change once a Delhi office Head is put in place.

Commenting on the need for a strong sales team in Delhi, he said, "Delhi is the fastest growing ad market in the country. All large display advertisers like Maruti, LG, Samsung and others are based in Delhi. For them Mumbai is an important market. I see a substantial portion of revenues coming from Delhi and we need a large and competent team to cater to these clients."

He also divulged that including all divisions, editorial, ad sales and marketing, DNA officials are looking at a team of over 35 professionals in Delhi. There would be a substantial amount of more appointments made in the next few days.

Going by Balakrishnan's words, there is a decent amount that would be soon heard from other cities (Bangalore and Kolkata) as well.
