Diamond Publications to present Hanuman in comic format

Diamond Group of Publications’ new venture Diamond Junior, in collaboration with Percept Picture Company, has come up with a comic version of the animated movie ‘Hanuman’.

Explaining the rationale behind the new offering, Manish Verma, Director - Marketing, Diamond Publications, said, “We wanted to come back to children’s market for a long time. We were planning to launch this division for a long time and with Hanuman it was the right platform. The movie succeeded in all mediums like VCDs, DVDs, theatres TV and merchandise, so we thought the gap for comics for Hanuman was quite apparent so lets fill and fulfill this.”

The company has finished production of the Hindi version, slated to hit the stands on May 20. The comic is targeted at those in the age group of eight to 15 years.

The marketing direction for the new offering has been thought through. Abhimanyu Mishra, CEO and Creative Director, Vishaka Communications (the agency which works as consultant to Diamond Publications), said, “We are going to build on and ride the hype and interest that the film has generated. We are also trying to revive the fast-dying habit of reading comics with this comic on Hanuman. We are hoping the adorable child Hanuman with his simplicity and innocence will be able to vibe with the modern game boy, PS2 Beyblade generation.”

Mishra explained that the creative strategy would be to tell the child that ‘here is his personal Hanuman that he can now own’. “He can access it on demand - Hanuman on demand. He can keep it under his pillow, carry it in his bag, basically his own personal Hanuman,” he added.

The Hanuman comic is priced at Rs 35, and is due for launch in other languages like English, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati and Punjabi as well.
